Howdy, folks! Here’s a little update on the Turningreen clan, from Texas, in reverse order.

-On Friday night, we had the perfect antidote for Thanksgiving dinner — Chinese takeout!

-On Black Friday, we had an outing to the massive Galleria for the sole purpose of buying……………a Mac Powerbook!! That’s right, this is my first post from a Mac. I am a total spaz on here, since I have been a PC user since the beginning of time. Bear with me….my formatting is a little off as I get used to this here laptop. The Mr. was anxiously awaiting the Apple sale info, and he even got us an extra discount thanks to his comparison shopping with Apple resellers! The mall was a total zoo. Luckily, the little ones were at the park running free with their uncle and did not face certain trampling by the sale-obsessed shoppers!

-A “get the kids out of the house” activity on Friday morning, along with hoards of other families — the Children’s Museum. Cute, fun, noisy and most likely germ-infested. I’m hoping we didn’t bring any parting gifts home with us.

-Thanksgiving dinner was delicious, of course. We had two turkeys….yes, two turkeys. One roasted, one smoked. We also had two stuffings — one with apples and one fabulous one with cornbread and andouille sausage. As I have mentioned already, our family has something truly special to be thankful for, so the meal itself took a backseat to our sentiments this holiday. We all took turns visiting the patient at the hospital, and he is improving each day. Thanks to everyone who sent thoughts and prayers our way!

-Travel on Wednesday. We had a direct flight, which is not easy to come by from our home airport. It was a small commuter jet with horrific temperature control. There was a guy on the plane who was unbelievably drunk, somewhat unruly and traveling alone. We felt bad for the poor guy, who certainly added a little drama to an otherwise boring flight. We attempted to entertain the kids by downloading movies, tv shows and podcasts onto our iPods. How very hip of us. The problem? Our son decided he didn’t like the movie we downloaded onto the Mr.’s iTouch for him. Our daughter could not seem to keep the ear buds in her ears and was about to blow a gasket over the frustration of this situation. Mom to the rescue…..I molded some fruit snacks into ear plugs to hold the ear buds in place. That’s right, folks — reusing in the open skies. (The best part was when she was finished with her podcasts and asked me if she could eat the fruit snacks. )

And that brings us back to the beginning.

  • Fruitsnack ear buds…how very gross and insanely creative! Mom of the year for sure! Sounds like a fun trip and by the way, welcome to the family!!!! Once you go Mac, you’ll never go back! Are you home already or could you not wait to set your new baby up?

  • Hope you are loving your Mac – we’ve never owned anything but. (However, you cannot watch Netflix Instant plays, which I learned last nigh – good thing, sometimes, that my husband has a PC laptop from work!)

  • Oh – and for Websites that won’t work with Safari, download Firefox (free). It works great.

  • @cindyjg - We did not used to be able to watch the netflix instant plays on our Macs, but my husband watches them all the time now with no problems.

Turningreen- congrats on the Mac! The fruitsnack earbuds idea is genius!

  • @cindyjg - We downloaded firefox this morning for that very reason.  We’ve been using firefox for awhile on our pc, so it makes me feel a little more oriented for now!

@draco1531 - Still in TX — the setup was so easy, we couldn’t resist!
@maayana - Think I could patent “fruity buds”??  hee hee

  • @maayana - Let me know how that works – I get a message saying that service is unavailable for the Mac. Maybe ours is too old? (It’s more than two years old.)

  • Did she eat them! lol

Glad you had a safe holiday… Hope you get used to the Mac soon!

  • Fruit snack earplugs. You are awfully clever!

My little boy is laughing at the ceiling right now – what on earth is so amusing about a white textured ceiling???  I don’t know, but I love it! (-:

I hope you figure out your Mac – I used to use macs exclusively and now am a PC girl and macs kind of freak me out!  But they are awfully pretty, that’s for sure. If I could just figure out how to right click, I think I’d be fine!

  • The whole lot you articulate interferes with my own opinion, I think therefore
