I Love a Parade
Every year, there is a Christmas Parade downtown, sponsored by a local grocery chain. This was our third year in attendance, so I think it’s safe to say that we have made it a tradition! I thought you might like to see some pictures from the event, while basking in the warm glow of your computer screen….as opposed to experiencing the 30 degree temperatures we did at the live event! Brrrrrr!
(A few of these pictures are from year’s past. So, sue me.)
Some version of this balloon usually starts off the festivities:
Here’s the 2008 Grand Marshal, Leland Melvin, an astronaut who is an alumni of our local University of Richmond, along with the new balloon he inspired (and tattoo parlor #1):
The law on horseback (and tattoo parlor #2 — next year, maybe we’ll kill two birds with one stone and get some ink for the whole family after the parade
):
I’m never quite sure what to make of these guys. Christmasy? Nope. Scary? Uh….yup — just a bit.
These Shriners in tiny cars are always a hoot — they drive round and round and do tricks for several minutes before zooming off to the next section of the parade:
And of course, Rudolph the Red Nosed Crowd Pleaser:
The grand finale was Santa and his sleigh, which oddly followed behind him (??), but by that time I was jamming all of our belongings into bags (while shivering profusely) in giddy anticipation of the minivan’s seat warmers.
Happy Holidays!

Yay! I love a parade too!
That sure looks like fun!
If you and the family get tats next year, will they be Star Wars ones?
@circe_redux - How’d ya’ guess????
That looks like fun! I love watching the Shriners in the tiny cars!
Oh, I think I would so be a scrooge for that event! I am from North Dakota originally but I’ve slowly lost all my heavy outdoor wear down here in OK and so now I stick close to heaters when it’s cold! Brrr! Glad you shared with us cold wimps. (-:
The Shriners are the BEST!!!!
Very fun, esp the little cars. Your kids must have had a blast.
Parades rock!! Wonder if my sister went to that parade? My kids haven’t seen a parade for a long, long time, because it’s just too hard to park. Or I’m just lazy. Maybe when we get public transportation, some day….
