  • It's Limbo Time!!

There is a lot going on around here this time of year, so I haven't really had a chance to write any blog posts for some time.  And since there is so much going on, my mind is a bit cluttered right now.  That means you are about to get a rambling read - a look inside the mind of a suburban mom in limbo.

Why am I in limbo, you ask?  Well, for starters -- preschool is over, but elementary school is not.  Actually, to be perfectly honest....the educational portion of elementary school ended about a week ago.  We are apparently now in the "all fun all the time" portion, brought to you almost entirely by the sucker parents who think they are getting an extra week of school out of the school system.  HA HA HA HA HA!  Suckers.  (And as the room parent, I realize that I am in fact the biggest sucker of them all, thank you very much.)  Adding to the limbo factor is the way that most after school activities are over, but school is not.  And swim team has begun, the pool is open, yet there is no room in the house for any of the swimming accoutrements  thanks to the continued presence of the backpack, used almost exclusively for carting an array of sugary treats for the entire class as a reward for having such suckers for parents.

I have said before that I think the schools would grind to a stop if it weren't for the parent volunteers.  In this case, I would prefer it if the schools would just let out a week earlier and spare the parents from having to send in everything from forty heated pancakes to a box of popsicles to home baked goods for the "teacher sponsored" pizza party.  Puh-lease.

I am barely keeping track of which theme day outfit goes with the ice cream party and which one goes with the popsicle party.  And I just found out that the swim meet has a theme requiring the entire family to dress a certain way AND we are required to bring food to sell at the concession stand.  And of course volunteer to make the swim meet run.  Aaaahhhhhh!!!!!  Can't I just write someone a check and go hide in a shady spot with my magazine???

Huh.  It seems that I am quite cranky when I am in limbo.  Did I mention that it is also unbearably hot here already???  Don't worry.  Vacation in four days.  Cannot wait!!

Ugh.  The theme swim meet kills me!  These people who insist on further complicating an already complicated event...I just don't get it!

@subarcticsuburbia - That's exactly it -- swim meets are insane.  How about the theme is "be less chaotic"?  There's a theme I could get behind!

Ick, I know.  We skipped swim team this year, for the first time in five years.  I just couldn't face it.  I'm a bad mom.

You haven't posted in a while, have you! I have been kind of in and out mentally these days (maybe that's all the time, but it seems like more lately... (-: )...

Limbo is sucky suck sucky. I am in between projects right now and mostly frittering away my time and then getting irritated with myself for not getting anything done. I am happier when I am Getting Things Done.

That is totally bizarre about the swim meet. Gosh, I do not look forward to grade school. At all!  I definitely vote for Out A Week Earlier And Not Faking It.

It is freaking hot, too, isn't it! It tends to fray the temper, indeed.
