A Good Week for Green
Earth Week is here and there is a lot going on at the kids’ school to honor the occasion. Our son had to write a sentence about what he does to help the environment and here’s what he wrote:
“I will eat less things with rapers.”
Wrappers. Wrappers. He wants to decrease litter. The misspelling kind of changes the tone of the sentence, eh?!!!?
I spent a few hours at the school today helping to reward kids in the lunchroom who were “caught being green.” By the time I left, I had no voice left….but it was pretty cool to have one on one conversations with so many kids about where to recycle in the cafeteria and why they shouldn’t throw away their food and how a reusable container helps the environment. Aside from a few token goofballs, they were all really sincere and excited. And the prizes didn’t hurt.
One girl told me that her grandpa reuses the milk in his cereal — after he eats the cereal, he pours the milk into his dog’s bowl! Another boy had already left the cafeteria and asked his teacher if he could come back to tell me an idea that his family had to be greener. After they finish drinks that come in plastic bottles, they fill them with water and use the containers again. It was so cute how he presented this idea – as if he was a pioneer with a cutting edge idea.
Kids really do care about the environment and are so easy to mold into good recycling and reusing habits. I am hearing more and more stories about the kids in our school pushing their parents to be greener at home. I love it!!

Meanwhile, I was doing jack crap, for the environment or the kids.
At least I wasn’t eating with rapers.
Sounds like your doing a great job!
